Bob Ianson is a photographer, small business owner, and apparently a master at being in the right place at the right time. Ianson, owner of Heirloom Linens, was on a walk with his family by Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria, Canada, when he saw something amazing. A harbor seal and a giant octopus were battling it out in the waters below. Ianson grabbed his camera and started shooting without a moment to spare.
"We were walking back, and up popped what at first looked like two seals," Ianson told the Huffington Post. "But once they got up to the surface I realized it was one seal with something in its mouth -- which turned out to be an octopus."
The victory ultimately went to the harbor seal, but the Pacific octopus put up a pretty valiant fight.
While it might seem like an oddity, octopus is actually a staple of the harbor seal's diet.
