A city is not a city if there isn’t a hint of danger lurking around the corner.
Owing to the fast life and general commercialness which cities thrive on, they make a not-so-perfect breeding ground for crime and men of the underworld.
However, as with everything else in life, some have a heavier dose of crime than others.
So the next time you want to book a trip for your next vacation, you may want to take note of places to be extra vigilante at, or possibly avoid altogether owing to their lack of safety.
According to Happy Lifestyle Journal, these are the 15 most dangerous cities in the world:
1) San Pedro Sula, Honduras: Boasting a lovely tropical climate and high temperatures throughout the year, the city has great sights, such as The Museum of Anthropology and History, The Child Planetarium and The Central Park but in 2011, the city had 159 homicides per 100,000 residents, which surpassed the previous most dangerous place on earth for three consecutive years, and loosely translates to about 3 murders a day.
2) Acapulco, Mexico: Owing to the large amount of drug cartel problems, there are reports of a high amount of murders here.
3) Caracas, Venezuela: The Venezuelan capital reportedly has among the highest per capita murder rates in the world, there is also the fact that most murders and other violent crimes like armed robbery go unsolved.
4) Tegusigalpa, Honduras: In 2010, the homicide rate in Francisco Morazán was 83.2 (per 100,000 inhabitants) compared to the national average of 86. In 2009, there were 246 motor-vehicle related deaths where pedestrians and bicyclists were the most common victims.

5) Maceio, Brazil: Statistics show that Maceio which is the capital and largest city of Alagoas, has 135 murders per 100,000 residents.
6) Havana, Cuba: Though the government does not release official crime statistics, crime reports are on the rise, with below-average crisis intervention from police.
7) Detroit, USA: This had the 6th highest total rate of violent crime and the highest per capita rate of violent crime among the 25 largest U.S. cities in 2007, and this hasn’t changed much since then.
Cairo, Egypt: With the unrest and protests in Egypt, its no surprise that Cairo is not very safe these days.
8) Kiev, Ukraine: Kiev is another place that has recorded unrest and violence lately. While the Ukrainian president wants ties with Russia, citizens want to enter the European Union, so violent excesses are ever present on the streets of Kiev.
9) Nuevo Laredo, Mexico: Drug cartels are very common in this city, due to its position of border town, and since 2006, 60,000 people were killed in drug related violence.

10) Cape Town, South Africa: South Africa is known to have one of the highest crime rate per 100,000 residents in the world regarding assault, rape and murder. Infact recently, a South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) editor was mugged on national TV, the muggers were however caught.

11) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: There is a high level of street crime such as pick pocketing and mugging here. Guatemala City, Guatemala: An average of 25 murders per week was reported in 2009 which is linked to the high drug cartel presence. There is also a common location of exploitation of women and children from other Latin American countries, particularly sex trafficking.

12) Sukhumi, Georgia: The region to which this city belongs made a declaration of independence in the early 1990’s and ever since then there have been threats of military action and terrorism. Not forgetting the September 27, 1993 when a large number of people were burned to death, dismembered while still alive and victims of sadistic rape.
13) Port-au-Prince, Haiti: The illegal drug trade in Haiti has encouraged violent crime, there is also a nonexistent real police force.
