When Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced they were getting a divorce, fans across the world were shocked.
The couple had been together for 10 years and were known synonymously as "Bennifer #2."
However, while the media perceived the Batman star and the Alias actress to be two peas in a pod, sources close to the twosome believe they were actually quite different.
"They are really two different people… Problems got bigger in their marriage after a few years."
For one, Garner had a very traditional upbringing in West Virginia.
On the other hand, Affleck grew up in Boston and immediately started his career as a child actor on PBS shows.
After they married and had three children — Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, andSamuel, 3 — the Good Will Hunting hunk's career continued to expand while theDallas Buyers Club thespian stayed at home to raise the kids.
This meant the director was often away from home for long periods of time.
A witness said:
"Ben's frequent absences didn't work for this marriage."
Another insider added:
"Everyone knows that juggling a family and career is hard."
Furthermore, another source adds that the couple grew too much apart.
"Ben is a good dad when he is around, but he has so many outside interests and personal issues to get beyond. It had become a bigger problem than either had imagined."
We just hope Ben and Jen can stay amicable for the sake of their children!
